Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your Husky fridge, from installation and set-up through to cleaning, troubleshooting, spares and warranty. Choose a topic below to narrow the list.

Does my fridge need to be level?

Yes. Use the adjustable feet to level the unit. An unlevel fridge can stop the door sealing correctly and prevent defrost water draining properly.

Can I run my fridge from an extension lead?

We recommend plugging your fridge directly into a dedicated wall socket. If an extension lead is unavoidable, use a suitably rated single-socket lead, fully unwound. Never use multi-way adaptors or daisy-chained extension leads. Switch off the unit at the mains when not in use.

Can I keep my fridge in a garage, shed or outbuilding?

This depends on the climate class of your unit, shown on the rating plate and in the user manual. Each unit is designed to operate within a set ambient temperature range. In an unheated garage or outbuilding the temperature can fall below this range in winter, which stops the thermostat working correctly, and rise above it in summer, which makes the unit work harder.

Can I use my fridge outdoors?

Standard Husky units are designed for indoor use only and must be kept away from rain, direct sunlight and extremes of temperature. Our Alfresco range is specifically designed for outdoor use and tested to IPX4 standard, with features such as heated glass doors to cope with outdoor conditions.

How long does my fridge take to reach temperature?

Allow 2 to 4 hours for the unit to reach its set temperature before loading. For best results, run the unit empty until it reaches temperature, then load it with pre-chilled product. Loading warm stock will extend the pull-down time considerably.

My fridge has just been delivered. How long should I wait before switching it on?

If the unit was transported upright, wait at least 1 hour before switching on. If it was laid down at any point during transport or delivery, stand it upright and leave it for at least 4 hours (24 hours if you are unsure) so the compressor oil can settle. Switching on too soon can damage the compressor.

How do I dispose of my old fridge?

Fridges and freezers must not be put in general waste as they contain refrigerants and insulation that need specialist recycling. Use your local authority recycling service or a licensed waste carrier. In many countries, retailers offer take-back schemes when a new unit is delivered.

Can the shelves be adjusted or replaced?

Yes. Shelves in most models are height adjustable, and replacement shelves are available as spare parts through your local distributor.

How much does my fridge cost to run?

Husky offer some of the most energy efficient coolers and freezers in the market, including our specific ECO low energy range. Running costs depend on the model, ambient temperature and how often the door is opened. Each unit’s energy consumption (kWh per annum or per 24 hours) is shown on its energy label and specification sheet.

What refrigerant do Husky fridges use? Is it environmentally friendly?

All Husky units are produced using either R600a or R290 hydrocarbon refrigerants. These are natural refrigerants with very low global warming potential, in line with current environmental standards.

Can I store food in a drinks chiller or back bar cooler?

Drinks chillers and back bar coolers are designed for pre-packaged bottles and cans, not open or fresh food. If you need to store fresh or dairy produce, choose a unit which meets the relevant food safe standards, such as our PRO and ECO upright commercial fridges and freezers.

What is the difference between a commercial and a domestic fridge?

Commercial units are designed for high levels of traffic in testing environments with frequent door openings and long running hours, typically with electronic controllers, fan assisted cooling and faster temperature recovery. Domestic units are designed for lighter home use and quieter running. Using a domestic unit in a commercial setting will likely not perform to your cooling requirements and in some instances may void your warranty.

How long should my Husky fridge last?

With regular cleaning and proper ventilation, a well maintained unit will typically last for many years. The biggest factors in a long life are keeping the unit regularly maintained and serviced, keeping the condenser clean, the door gasket in good condition and giving the unit enough ventilation space. Switch the unit off when not in use for long periods.

Where do I find my model and serial number?

The rating plate showing the model and serial number is located either inside or on the back of the unit. You will need these numbers for any spare parts or service enquiry.

The controller is showing an error code. What does it mean?

Error codes vary by model and controller. Check the user manual supplied with your unit for details. If you cannot resolve it, contact your local engineer with your model and serial number to hand.

There has been a power cut. What should I do?

Keep the door closed as much as possible; a fridge will hold a safe temperature for around 4 hours and a full freezer for up to 24 to 48 hours. The unit will restart automatically when power returns. Check contents afterwards and do not refreeze food that has fully thawed.

My fridge is making clicking, gurgling or bubbling noises. Is this normal?

Yes. Gurgling and bubbling is refrigerant moving around the system, and clicking is the thermostat switching the compressor on and off. These are all normal. A loud rattle or buzz usually means the unit is touching a wall or another object, or something on top is vibrating; a small repositioning normally solves it.

Water is leaking onto the floor. What should I do?

Check the unit is level, then check the drain hole inside the unit is not blocked by food or debris; clear it gently with warm water. Also check the evaporation tray at the back of the unit is sitting correctly in place. If the leak continues, contact your local engineer.

Why is ice building up inside my fridge?

Ice build-up is usually caused by frequent door openings, a door left ajar, a damaged door gasket letting humid air in, or the temperature being set colder than needed. Check the gasket, make sure the door closes fully and defrost the unit if ice has already formed.

Why is there condensation on the glass door?

Condensation forms when warm, humid air meets the cold glass, and is normal in humid conditions or busy environments. Wipe the glass with a dry cloth and improve ventilation around the unit where possible. Some Husky models feature heated or Low E glass specifically to reduce condensation.
